Independent Modeling is a resource site for independent and agency-represented models who wish to enhance the marketability of their modeling careers, as well as have an advantage over limited models; those limited models being agency-only models who do not think for themselves, do not invest in their career, and allow modeling agencies to manage them, and to tell them what to do. Other limited models include models who try to put together competent professional modeling portfolios for free, using TFP, and who try to compete against professional models with cheap career tools. The independent models who use Independent Modeling are smart, professional models who know enough that to have an advantage over other models, that they have to invest in their careers. Independent Modeling is NOT a modeling and talent agency, and we do not claim to be. We do not directly refer models into modeling jobs for financial compensation, and do not represent models. Independent Modeling is not intended to be used for any advice, which includes legal advice, and any advice which can only be legally given by a licensed professional in a regulated profession. Obviously, the entire point of Independent Modeling is to open up the industry, and undermine scams and unethical behavior, by decentralizing the power distribution in the industry, and by enabling models, talent, and the businesses which book them to operate without going through the modeling and talent agencies, and without being dependent upon them.
This said, modeling and talent agencies are still a legitimate part of the modeling industry, even today. As long as they are convenient, and they are only used as a way if securing work and talent, there is no problem.
It’s just that modeling and talent agencies are not as important as they used to be. They are no longer the only way to have a career as a professional models or photographer, or to find and book models and talent into jobs.
Modeling and talent agencies are supposed to work for the models and talent whom they represent. They are also supposed to work for their client whom are looking for models and talent for their marketing and advertising. Agencies are a middleman. That’s it.
Modeling and talent agencies have no business managing models and talent, telling their clients what to do, selling models and talent services, or referring models and talent to others who will sell them services.
Dependence upon modeling and talent agencies, in our opinion, and allowing them to have power and to call the shots is the reason that the modeling industry has such a bad reputation, a reputation which is well-deserved. Agencies being the only way to work in the industry, in our opinion, leads to corruption, dirty politics, and unethical activity. It is also our opinion that the agencies being seen as the only way enables modeling scams.
An open market is superior to a closed market. If anyone tells you that they agency way is the only way, consider that they either do not know what they are doing, or that they are misleading you. Sometimes, people have no business sense, or they blindly follow others and refuse to think for themselves. That’s not very smart. Can these people really do anything for you, or help you, and can you trust them? THINK, and make up your own mind........
